ELECTRI-STOCK-ENERGY is a research-based art project that reimagines electrical energy as a new form of “stock.” On the web, through a series of research notes (experimental essays) titled Energy is the New Stock, the project focuses on the hidden debts behind electricity bills and the intricate relationship between energy, money, and future generations. It shifts the perspective of energy from a mere unit of consumption to a matter of capital, debt, and future ownership, proposing a speculative outlook on energy (kWh) as a new form of stock-capital. The physical exhibition presents two core elements: • Real-time Data Object: A microcontroller-based object that receives live KEPCO (Korea Electric Power Corporation) stock data. It reveals the financial status of the public energy utility not just as a set of numbers, but as the ongoing “heartbeat of energy capital.” • Sonification Work: A sound piece that translates the fluctuations of KEPCO’s stock price from 2022 to 2025 into audio. By turning events such as wars, tariff policies, and accumulated debt into uncanny waveforms and rhythms, it allows the audience to aurally experience “the price of electricity already consumed.” ELECTRI-STOCK-ENERGY is neither an environmental campaign nor an investment guide. Instead, it is a speculative proposal to re-examine energy—not as a commodity to be used, but as an issue of capital, debt, and the ownership of the future.

"ELECTRI-STOCK-ENERGY" Presentation by Mina Kim

ELECTRI-STOCK-ENERGY 는 전기 에너지를 새로운 ‘주식(Stock)’으로 상상해 보는 리서치 기반 예술 작업이다. 웹에서는 Energy is the new stock 이라는 제목의 연구 노트(실험적 에세이)를 통해, 전기요금 고지서 뒤에 숨은 부채와 에너지-돈-미래세대의 관계에 주목한다. 에너지를 소비의 단위가 아닌 자본과 부채, 그리고 미래 소유권의 문제로 다시 바라보며, 하나의 상상적인 제안으로 새로운 주식-자본으로서 에너지(kWh)를 바라보기를 제안한다. 실물 전시에서는 두 가지 요소가 제시된다.
첫째, 실시간 한전 주가 데이터를 받아 변동을 바로 보여주는 마이크로컨트롤러 오브제는, 전력 공기업의 재무 상태를 단순한 숫자가 아니라 현재 진행 중인 “에너지 자본의 심장 박동”으로 드러낸다.
둘째, 2022–2025년 한전 주가 변화를 소니피케이션으로 구현한 사운드 작업은, 전쟁·요금 정책·부채 누적 같은 사건들이 남긴 흔적을 기묘한 파형과 리듬으로 들려주며, “이미 소비해 버린 전기의 가격”을 청각적으로 체험하게 한다. ELECTRI-STOCK-ENERGY는 환경 캠페인이나 투자 가이드가 아니라, 에너지를 소비의 단위가 아닌 자본과 부채, 그리고 미래 소유권의 문제로 다시 바라보자는 하나의 상상적인 제안이다.
